Hydroponic growing system Vs Soil with William Texier

In this video, one of the co-founders of Virgin shows off his own hydroponic system – a method of growing plants without soil, using only water and nutrients. He explains that he tested this setup earlier this year during an experiment in the middle of Limburg to show how simple and effective it really is.
He uses special LED lights and a smart system that works especially well for growing things like lettuce or herbs. The plants grow in a nutrient solution, using the “Flora Series” – a basic mix that gives the plants everything they need to thrive.
William says it’s easy to see the difference. After just a few days, the plants start growing much faster and healthier than in traditional soil. Some even grow exponentially – meaning their growth speeds up over time – which is pretty amazing when you compare it to regular growing methods.
What’s also interesting is that this system helps the plants boost their metabolism. With the right lighting – like neon or LED – growth improves even more. And the best part? The whole setup is simple to use. Even if you don’t have much space or want to keep energy use low, it still works really well.
William points out that hydroponics isn’t just about saving money. It’s also about discovering a new passion. You learn a lot, it’s fun to experiment, and it really makes growing your own food easier.
With just two or three weeks, you can already go through a full growing cycle. And if you want to get more advanced, you can easily tweak the system to fit your needs. For William, it’s clear: this is a great solution for anyone who wants to grow their own food, experiment, and enjoy a smarter, more efficient way to garden.
